CombatHap Ki Do: A modern, eclectic system of self defense developed by Grand Master Pellegrini (certified 9th Dan with the World Ki-Do Federation). Murray's Family Martial Arts Center is an accredited charter school with the International Combat Hapkido Federation under Grand Master Pellegrini.
Officially know as Chon Tu Kwan Hapkido: This systematic approach to self-defense uses escapes, joint locks, joint manipulations, and Ki energy.
Hapkido uses a "hard-soft" approach to self defense. It combines many of the strikes and blocks from a traditionally 'harder' styles like karate or taekwondo while learning "softer" ways to redirect an attackers force instead of stopping it similar to Aikido or jujitsu . Incorporating the circle principle teaches students to flow around, over, or under an attack to avoid its force similar to how water flows over a dam. Combing spirit, body, and our surroundings with a technique allows us to achieve harmony with our attacker in one's self.
Hapkido develops "Ki" strength through the practice controlled breathing, meditation, and proper techniques. This mental and physical focus allows the practitioner inner peace and create harmony with the universe. A balance is created avoiding conflict and negativity around us with a new found appreciation for life and our surroundings.
